and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge;
and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing.
-1 Corinthians 13:2
And He shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no longer be any death;
there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.
Revelation 21:4
Sheby Joy
Sheby was born in Perumbavoor, India on August 11, 1968 and was the younger son of Dr. P.K. Joy and the Late Mrs. Sara Joy. He spent his formative years in Calcutta and attended the Don Bosco (Park Circus) School.
In 1981, his family moved to Madras and he resumed his schooling at Don Bosco, Madras. He was a brilliant student throughout his school life. Based on his high school score of 99% and state awards, he was accepted on merit, to the prestigious College of Engineering at Guindy, Anna University in Madras, where he studied Industrial Engineering. He later continued graduate studies in Industrial Engineering at the University of Houston and then in Marketing Management at the Texas A&M University in College Station.
Sheby married Sandhya in 1992 and they have two beautiful children- Sharon and Shereen. In 2005, Sheby and his family returned to the USA and Virginia after a short tenure in Bahrain.
Sheby started in the family construction business in 1994 and built several refineries, power plant equipment and other plants all over India. He later moved to Bahrain and built a career in the signage and display business. In Virginia, he continued this work and managed the design and construction of displays at various museums and other sites in the Washington D.C. area. He had recently started work selling software solutions to Fortune 500 companies. He was visiting his brother Aby and family in Houston when he was called by God on January 5, 2011.
As unique as his name, Sheby (named after the famous Russian mathematician Chebyshev) will be remembered best for his selfless love and his easy going spirit. He was a loving father and husband and always put his family first. Sheby was a “people person” and could be at ease with anyone from a baby to an elderly person. He was always available to his friends and helped them through their sickness and personal sorrows.
He was very popular in High School and College and was always sought for both his wit and brilliance. In addition to studies he excelled in theater and dance in high school. A gifted student, he always helped his fellow classmates with studies selflessly. He loved good food, and he was an excellent cook.
Besides Sandhya, Sharon and Shereen, Sheby is survived by his brother Aby, sister-in-law Mini, nephew Nakul, niece Shreya and his father, Dr. Joy.
Sheby is in heaven now with God and is sleeping on the lap of his mother, Saramma Joy. This is not the time for us to grieve his death but it’s our time to celebrate his life. He never wanted to see people cry and always wanted to selflessly help and make everyone happy. This is not the moment for us to shed our tears but we should all be thankful that we were given the chance to have known a wonderful person named Sheby.
Sheby will forever be missed but we will all meet him again and he’ll make us laugh in tears again.
