Sharlie was born in Urbana, Arkansas on February 5, 1935 to Lloyd and Mattie “Rama” (Peterson) Evans. She grew up in Prescott, Arkansas, where she graduated high school and briefly attended Ouachita Baptist University. She then moved to Houston and worked as an office assistant at Houston Natural Gas Company. She soon met the love of her life, William John “Bill” Elsenbrock, at First Baptist Houston and was married on October 9, 1954, in Prescott, Arkansas.
In 1966, Bill and Sharlie moved their family from Houston to the community of Forest Cove in Humble, Texas where they remained for over 50 years. Every summer, they loved camping, hiking and sight-seeing in the Colorado and Canada mountains, and enjoyed spending time with their many camping friends. Sharlie loved the Lord and her family and friends, and set a wonderful example of loving and serving them diligently and faithfully. Like Bill, she was a faithful member of Forest Cove Baptist Church, which later became Second Baptist Houston, for over 50 years.
Sharlie was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years; her 3 sisters, Gertrude “Marion” Ferguson, Dorothy “Jean” Snearly Roberts, and Theresa “Marie” Staggs Sommers; and her 2 brothers, Vaughn “Scott” and Richard “Charles” Evans.
Sharlie is survived by her 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren: William J. Elsenbrock, Jr. (Ethan, Brentan and Zachary); Sharon and Mike Graham (LeAnna and Leslee); David and Susan Elsenbrock (Cole and Anna Marie Elsenbrock [Emma and Elliott], and Haley and Bryce Brown); Carole and Warren Dalton (Ashley, and Demi and Garrett Beadle [Ryder and Rylee]); Russell and Teresa Elsenbrock (Aaron, Jenna, Adam, and Anthony).
