Shad Edwards began his life in the rolling hills of middle Tennessee, the fifth child of 11 siblings born to Charles Hannah Edwards and Mary Jane Locke. He aided in supporting the family in Columbia, Tennessee when his father lost his job during the depression. He began preaching for small churches of Christ in outlying areas as a young man. He met Winnie Grace Dugger while working in the Hosery Mill there in Columbia, and they married when he was 22 years of age and she was 20. In the years to come they had three children, Larry, Sharon, and Bryan.
Shad's preaching career spanned 67 years and many different locations: Florence, Alabama; Hattisburg, Mississippi; Carbondale (Tulsa), Oklahoma;Galena Park, Texas; LaMarque, Texas; Tipton, Oklahoma; Spring Branch in Houston; Hoffman Heights in Aurora, Colorado; Dumas, Texas; Mulvane, Kansas near Wichita; Lewisburg, Tennessee; Sinton, Texas; Groves, Texas; Greenville, Texas; South Houston, Texas; Dickinson, Texas; Baycliff, Texas; Texas City, Texas; and returned to South Houston Church of Christ which was his last full time work preaching the gospel. He and Grace became members of the Parkview Church of Christ where they worshipped for their remaining days.
Shad and Grace became grandparents to Larry's children, Matt, Mark, and Marcy, to Sharon's children, Sheryl-Lynn and Holly-Ann and to Bryan and LaQuita's children, Nicholas and Shelley. They became great-grandparents to Mark and Jackie's children, Morgan, Madison, and Julia and to Holly-Ann and Michael's son, Landon Locke, his namesake.
Shad is loved and admired by a host of family and friends who will miss him and will continue to share the wonderful influence he has had on them all through the years which will continue for all the years to come.
