Sarosh Jehangir Collector, 75, passed on July 23, 2023, after a seven yearlong battle against pancreatic cancer, in his League City, TX home. He was surrounded by his devoted wife, Pearline Collector, and his three loving children. He was born September 27, 1947, to Jehangir P. and Roshan Collector of Karachi, Pakistan.
Growing up in Karachi, he met his first love, the game of cricket. He was an avid swimmer and grew up in a loving and close knit Parsi community. He was self-described as being a ‘spoiled brat’. However, his family and friends would simply describe him as cherished.
He had an accomplished educational and professional career. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from NED Engineering College and taught at BVS Boy’s School. He then moved to Norman, Oklahoma and attended The University of Oklahoma to pursue a business degree. It was here that he met Pearline, the only woman on earth that could hold a candle to his first love, cricket. Sarosh and Pearline were married in a simple, yet beautiful ceremony which sums up their 50 year marriage. They simply loved each other, their children, their grandchildren and family and it was beautiful. Later, he and Pearline moved to Houston where he completed his business degree at The University of Houston – Clear Lake and became a certified public accounting in 1979. He was a CPA at a local Houston firm and quickly became a partner. He earned a professional reputation as a hardworking, honest and ethical CPA who was able to spot problems and find working solutions. In 1987, he opened his own CPA firm, where he faithfully served his clients for several years. Although stating he was retired, he never truly stopped his work projects. He was the ‘little engine that could’ in many respects.
But there is so much more to the man you know as Sarosh Collector. Not only was he loving family man and a respected professional, he was also had a devout dedication to his religion and community. He had a deep desire to recreate the close knit community he grew up in and share the knowledge of his Zoroastrian traditions and beliefs with others. He was a visionary who collaborated with others in the religious community and founded The Zoroastrian Association of Houston, Zoroastrian Youth Group of Houston, FEZANA and World Zoroastrian Chamber of Commerce.
By nature, Sarosh was a mentor who believed in encouraging critical thinking and fostering education. There was no subject off limits when he gave advice. He was always there to lend a listening ear and pearls of wisdom. He had a love for life and the riches it offers. He enjoyed good food, great company, the arts and, above all, his family and community. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Each child was adored for their unique personality and talents. They always brought a smile to his face.
Sarosh is survived by his wife Pearline; children Rayomond (wife Sarah), Dina (husband Ian) and Kayaanoosh. Grandchildren Sarosh R., AshaLynnea and Armaiti Collector; and Natalia and Micah Kuecker. His cousins, that he grew up with like brothers, Kershaw (wife Bakhtawar) and Feroze (wife Rubina) Byramji. He is also survived by his numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
