Santos Joseph Martinez, Sr., a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 20, 2024, at the age of 76 in Houston, Texas. He was born on November 1, 1948, in Victoria, Texas, to Juan Martinez and Sally Garcia(Juan), who preceded him in death. Santos was also preceded by his beloved wife of 39 years, Lucia “Lucy” Martinez; his grandson, Michael Anthony Martinez; and his sisters, Bea Perez and Chita Urbano.
Santos is survived by his five children: Sophia Lisa Grooms (Duane), Veronica Ann Campos, Santos Joseph Martinez, Jr., Jim Anthony Garcia (Emily), and Matthew James Martinez Sr. (Cristina). His legacy lives on through 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. Santos and Lucia’s love story began in 1975 when they met at a little league football field. From that day forward, they were inseparable, building a life together rooted in love, faith, and family. As devout Catholics, their faith guided their marriage and shaped the values they passed on to their children.
A proud retired plumber, Santos was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft. He spent many years in the trade, earning the respect of his colleagues and community. Outside of work, he was a passionate sports fan who never missed a game of his beloved Houston Astros and Houston Texans.
Santos’ family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
