Sandra E. Davis, age 72, went home to the Lord Jesus on November 17, 2016. Sandy first and foremost loved the Lord. For almost forty years, Sandy served Christ through the study and teaching of the Bible first in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF); taking joy in teaching others to study and apply the Word in their own lives. Most recently, Sandy taught Sunday School at Houston’s First Baptist Church where she continued to share her heart and purpose in life until the end. Sandy loved her husband and family both in words and deeds, always with a ready ear to listen, and helpful hand to come along side you, sharing your pain or joy in life’s moments, wisdom when needed, and a prayer to sooth the hurting heart.
Sandy was born on July 26, 1944, in Gorman, Texas to Arthur H. Ernest and Trott Ernest. With two older brothers, Gene Ernest, and Ronald H. Ernest, Sandy grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and attended Texas Tech University after graduating from Arlington Heights High School. After leaving college, Sandy spent a short time as a stewardess for Braniff Airlines. In 1965 and while living in Dallas, Texas, Sandy worked as a yoga instructor (don’t tell Sandy’s BSF friends) at a health spa owned and operated by Betty Davis. Little did she know that she would soon call her employer her mother-in-law.
Sandy married who would be her devoted and loving husband for over 50 years, Richard C. Davis, of Dallas, Texas, on June 18, 1966. Dick and Sandy soon moved to Houston, Texas, where they raised two children, Richard Glenn Davis, born in 1968, and Deborah Davis, born in 1970. In 1999, Sandy entered that stage of life for which every mother dreams: Sandy became a grandmother. She continued to see her family grow to eventually including five beautiful granddaughters whom she loved greatly.
Sandy leaves her husband, Richard “Dick” Davis, her daughter, Deborah Davis, of Missouri City, Texas, her son, R. Glenn Davis, her daughter-in-law, Laura B. Davis, and five granddaughters, Emma, Audrey, Camille, Julia, and Charlotte, all of El Paso, Texas. Sandy also leaves her brother, Gene Ernest, and his wife, Kathleen, both of La Grange, Georgia, and her brother Ron H. Ernest, and his wife, Ann, both of Fort Worth, Texas.
She passionately served Christ, and sacrificially loved her husband and children. She had the wisdom of God at her fingertips and spoke the truth. Sometimes that truth stung, but it was truth and was always backed by love. Sandy practiced love as commanded by Jesus himself, one that places the needs and desires of others ahead of self. Her children honor her for the mother she was, the wisdom she imparted and memories which will continue for generations. She had no fear of dying because she knew exactly where she would be when she closed her eyes for the last time: in the arms of Jesus. With her, we rejoice in her final homecoming.
