Samuel “Ray” Kennedy, age 78, of Houston, TX passed away on December 24, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Ray was born on October 25, 1935 in Birmingham, AL. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years: Shirley Kennedy, son Sam Kennedy and his wife Christi, grandson Brady Kennedy, granddaughters Shelby Kennedy and Lauren LeCompte and her husband Tim LeCompte, and great granddaughter Payton LeCompte. He is also survived by his brother Charles Kennedy and wife Jean of Bastrop, TX; his sisters Dorothy Alford and husband Marlin of Kaufman, TX, Janet Molinaro and husband Nick of Houston, TX, and Janice Kennedy of Houston, TX along with numerous other family and friends.
Ray worked for the City of Houston for over 35 years. At the time of his retirement, he was Director of the Traffic and Transportation Department. Ray was a Life Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) serving as Vice Chairman of the Parade Committee for many years. He was appointed to the HLSR Ex-Officio
Board of Directors in 1994 and was currently serving in this capacity. Ray also served 22 years as Vice Chairman of the Houston Municipal Employees Pension Board.
Ray will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
The visitation and funeral will be held at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home on Monday, December 30, 2013. The visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 pm with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
