Sam Plummer, age 90, passed away in Houston Texas on the 4th of February 2013. He was born in Orange, Texas and grew up in the Houston Heights attending Houston public schools. During World War II, he served six years in the Army Air Corps, half of those overseas in Europe and North Africa. He participated and survived the daring Ploesti Raid of 1943 in Romania. When he returned to civilian life, he married Mary Katherine Faickney of Angleton, Texas, where they lived for the next two decades. During this time, he was a homebuilder and real estate developer. During their time in Angleton Sam and Mary Katherine welcomed the birth of their three daughters. The family then moved to Houston where he continued in the home building industry.
Sam Plummer was truly one of a kind. Everyone who knew him was awed by his tremendous enthusiasm for life. Sam’s ebullient character combined with his knack for storytelling made him a man no one would ever forget. A member of “The Greatest Generation”, Sam’s entrepreneurial spirit guided his achievement of the American dream. A special family man, Sam adored his three girls and his dear Mary Katherine. A man of many interests and hobbies, Sam raced boats, motorcycles and cars--the latter well into his 80’s.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories are his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Mary Katherine Plummer, and daughters Linda Schwarz of Houston, Sammie Gatti of Dallas, and Kaysie Rusk, and Son-in-law, Thomas Rusk and granddaughter Samantha Gayle Rusk all of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening, Friday, the 8th of February, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
At a later date, the family is to gather for a private interment service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions may be directed to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030.
