Sam immigrated to the United States in 1952, when he was only 4 years old. His family settled in Houston, TX, where they ran a community grocery store. Sam graduated from Houston public schools and attended the University of Houston. Go Coogs!
After college, Sam realized his dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur by owning and operating Sam’s Deli Diner. At the restaurant, he made numerous friends and provided local kids with the opportunity to earn a living wage. When deciding to finally retire from the business and move to California, Sam sold the business to his brother Henry. Sam’s Deli Diner still exists today, but under different ownership.
In 1990, Sam moved to California with his wife and two sons, where he remained for 28 years. During this time, he raised his two boys, helped them graduate from Castro Valley High School, sent them off to college, and watched them have their own families, which filled Sam with pride.
Upon returning to Houston in 2018, Sam enjoyed a relaxing, private life, taking early morning walks in his neighborhood and tending to his garden. Sam will be commemorated for his love for his family; sharing his interests in business, finance, and economics; and building a successful Sam’s Deli Diner restaurant enterprise.
A gathering will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home,
