Today we say goodbye to a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Sally Crow Bishop was born in Houston Texas on August 16,1944. She grew up in Houston enjoying horseback riding, sports and lake activities.
After one year at The University of Texas, Sally met the love of her life and decided to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma. She attended The University of Tulsa and earned a degree in Elementary Education. She taught for two years in Tulsa and continued her teaching career in Houston.
Sally spent 26 years teaching second and third grade students in Houston at inner city schools. She chose to teach in these areas because she saw a need and knew she could make a difference in the lives of her students. Sally was also a lead teacher and advisor in the Teachers For Tomorrow program. She encouraged and trained University of Houston students to teach in inner city schools, which was a mission very near and dear to her heart.
While teaching full time, Sally was a very loving and caring wife and mother. She married Jim Bishop in 1965 and they had two daughters, Lisa and Julie. Sally cared for her immediate family and loved her extended family as well. She was a pillar of strength for her parents, her sister and her niece and nephews. She willingly supported her family through all of the joys and challenges that life brought. Sally thoroughly enjoyed being a grandmother to her five grandchildren, Kaylee, Ashton, Collin, Lauren and Luke. She thought each one was amazing and special in their own way and never let them forget how proud she was of them.
Sally always had a smile for family and friends. She enjoyed road trips and nights out with friends, but she also loved curling up with her schnauzer and a good book. Sally was a strong woman who demonstrated grace, compassion and sincerity throughout her life. She was a blessing to all of us and we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and surrounded by those whom she cared for while looking down on those of us who lovingly celebrate her life and say goodbye to her today.
