Sadie McKay

Sadie, born April 8, 1961 in El Campo, Texas was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was an active member of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, was an amazing cook, loved to vacation (especially at the beach), and no one could get things done quite like Sadie could.

Sadie also greatly valued her education. She worked diligently to overcome many obstacles and in 2002, Sadie graduated from Howard College in Big Spring, Texas with her Associate Degree in Nursing. Her nursing career spanned many specialties including travel nursing, the emergency room, as well as physical rehabilitation.

There’s no doubt, however, that Sadie’s greatest passion was her family. She married the love of her life, Larry, on Valentines Day in 1981 and they enjoyed almost 32 years together before Larry’s passing in 2012. “Nanny Sadie”, as she was affectionately known by many, loved family gatherings and everyone looked forward to her down-home cooking. There’s nothing Sadie wouldn’t do for her entire family, but her grandchildren were the light of her life. Whether she was a shoulder to cry on, a friend to talk to, or the voice of reason, Sadie was devoted her grandbabies and loved them more than anything in this world.

She was preceded in death by her parents Esther Mae & J.V. Moore, Sr.; husband Larry Dwight McKay, Sr.; brother J.V. Moore, Jr.; and sister Dixie White.

Sadie is survived by her son, Larry (Jessica) McKay Jr.; daughter Delana McKay, and daughter Christie (Gary) Snider. She will also be forever missed by her nine grandchildren: Brittany, Ashlyn, Larry, Darci, MaKayla, Jericho, Lilly, Kolby, and Grayson; two great-grandchildren Kolin and Adley Rae; her baby brother, Leroy (Sheila) Moore, sisters Diane (Rick) Balsamo, Lois (Dean) Hippler, and Sandra (Kenny) Dyess, as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 10:00 am in the Earthman Resthaven Chapel. Burial to immediately follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77060.
