Ruth Ann Wong was granted her angel wings on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by family after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Ruth's life would seem too brief to many, but those who were touched by her would understand that her quality of life far exceeds the quantity of time she spent here on this Earth. Ruth will be forever remembered by her family, her CBC church family, her students, her co-workers and her dear friends.
Ruth was born on March 3, 1959 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Wing G. Wong and Sou Ying Wong. She graduated from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, with a Bachelor of Education in 1981 and a Master of Education in 1984. In 1985, Ruth moved to Houston, Texas to make it her home.
Ruth loved being around children and watching them learn and grow. She adored her nieces and nephews, and served as godmother to countless others. For over thirty years, Ruth channeled her passion for education by serving as a public-school teacher. During the week, Ruth taught in schools across greater Houston. On the weekend, Ruth brought her gift of teaching to Chinese Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and as a former director of Children's Education programs. Her passion for education and sharing the gospel impacted thousands of students so that they could lead their lives as educated citizens and strong followers of Christ.
Ruth is preceded by her parents, Wing G. Wong and Sou Ying Wong; grandparents Frank B. Wong and Ngoon T. Wong, and sister, Mary Ann Wong. Ruth is survived by her siblings, Sue Fong (Dennis) of Richmond, Texas; Richard Wong (Wendy) of Collierville, Tennessee; and Joyce Black (Russell) of Morrisville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Erica Wong, Stacy Slade (Tim), Marisa Wong, Brian Wong, Brandon Black, Joel Fong and Natalie Wright (Chase).
