Ruth was born on January 28, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas, to Ann Lafayette and Louis James Kosclskey. Born with both a curious nature and a sense of adventure, she spent her childhood years riding horses, playing her bugle and running around with her five siblings: Carmen, Pauline, Louis, Ann, and Nancy. Ruth graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1954, where she made many friends and enjoyed playing tennis. True to her sense of adventure, Ruth chose to go a few hours away from home and attended Sam Houston State Teacher’s College in Huntsville. She really came into her own and gained a lot of confidence while in college. Ruth was initiated into the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and was also chosen as the Senior Class Beauty. She graduated with a BS in Education in 1958.
After college, Ruth started her career as an elementary school teacher and was enjoying the single life, when she met the love of her life, John Hruska. They were married in 1963 and spent 60 years building and living a beautiful life together. Ruth truly had a love of teaching and John was well-suited in his profession as a pharmacist. This foundation allowed them to have an incredibly successful home and family life. They owned a small cottage on Lake LBJ and spent many summers there letting their beloved dog, Reb, run free and always enjoyed hosting their extended family. Ruth, affectionately known as “Aunt Toosie”, was the favorite aunt of all thirteen of her nieces and nephews and they really felt her love, support, care, concern, and wisdom throughout the many years they had her in their lives. She contributed in some way to each of them, and they will always have such fond memories of Ruth, while also being so thankful to have had her as their aunt.
Later in life, Ruth and John filled their sense of adventure by traveling around Texas on birding excursions. They also took several trips to Branson, Missouri, where they enjoyed taking in the shows. Ruth and John also got a sense of fulfillment when they moved into the Heritage Grand community in the Cinco Ranch area by participating in the many activities they offered and by taking long walks together on the sidewalk trails. They really enjoyed the friendships they made while living in that community.
Ruth’s diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease caused her health to deteriorate rapidly over the past few years and it was not an easy time for her, as well as for John. They found comfort in each other during these years, probably more than they ever had, and their relationship became as simple as sitting together and holding each other’s hand. John preceded Ruth in death in October of 2023 and it brings the family a sense of peace to know that they are reunited. Thank you, Ruth, for your beautiful life.
You will be missed.
