RUTH ELIZABETH ADOLFSON FROEHNER, 96, long time Houston resident, passed away November 30, 2011. Mrs. Froehner was born August 21, 1915, to Axel Edward and Annie Martinson Adolfson in Fort Worth, TX. She is survived by a brother, Ed Adolfson (Jewel) of Fort Worth, three daughters, Marilyn Blackmon (Winston) of Coldspring, Linda Johnson (Jim) of Houston, and Sharon Mueller of Austin, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 62 years Leander Emmitt (Buck) Froehner and three sisters, Annie Marie Ray, Ebba Calhoon and Klara Harkrider. Ruth and Buck married in 1937 and settled in Houston. She attended St. Marks United Methodist Church for over 70 years and taught kindergarten for over 40 years. Ruth had a beautiful soprano voice and, with Buck, was a long time member of the St. Marks’ choir and the church’s Friendship Class. Ruth was a member of United Methodist Women, the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary and a life member of PTA. In recent years she enjoyed working with her daughters on Project Linus quilts. Ruth and Buck enjoyed travel, especially to visit family, and Ruth had the distinction of having visited all 50 U.S. states. For the last 12 years she has been a resident at The Terrace at Spring Shadows Place where she enjoyed playing games and visiting with friends. Despite her brave demeanor and love of family, it was obvious Buck's passing in 2000 left a hole in Ruth's heart. With a gentle nature, loving manner and obvious enjoyment of family and life, she was beloved 'Nana' to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Visitation with the family will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 4th, at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston. Grave side services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 5th, at Woodlawn Cemetery, followed by a memorial service 1:00 p.m. Monday at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 600 Pecore, Houston, 77009. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the St. Mark’s Memorial Fund.
