In 1936, Ruth’s family moved to Houston and united with North Main COGIC. Her educational experience was obtained from Burrus Elementary, B.T. Washington, Prairie View University and Johnson Business School, where she earned a certificate in secretarial science and business management.
She met Frank Chadwick and they were married January 16, 1950. To this union one son was born, Thomas Gene Chadwick. Her faith in God and love of her family had a great influence on her life. Ruth was employed by the Houston Independent School District for twenty-seven years in the Personnel/Human Resource Department. In this position she was able to help many church members and friends become employed.
She committed her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age. Ruth was dedicated to serving God in many capacities within the church. Under the leadership of Elder Charlie Thomas, Sis. Chadwick served as secretary of Sunday School and Y.P.W.W. for many years. Under the leadership of Bishop Godfrey, she continued to serve in various areas that include: Women Economical Club secretary, Dorcas Circle secretary, Church Librarian & Notary, Chairperson of Culinary Arts, Wedding Co-Coordinator, Building Committee member, and the Dorcas Circle Senior President. She enjoyed maintaining historical archives of activities relating to the church. She has received many awards such as Proclamations from President & Mrs. Obama, Governor Rick Perry and Mayor Annise Parker wishing her good health and happiness on her 85th birthday. The National Women’s of Achievement Award was received from State Representative Dr. Alma R. Allen and the nonagenarian citation was awarded from the Church of God In Christ, Inc, World Headquarters.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Thomas Gene Chadwick (Sharon); three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, two God-children, and a host of relatives & friends
