Russell and Geneva had been married over 72 years and spent most of their lives in Sedalia, Missouri. They were the loving parents of and survived by Dale Ulmer and his wife, Kathy of Mobile, Alabama and Jill (Ulmer) Bruns and her husband, Mike of Kingwood, Texas. They were the grandparents of Todd Ulmer, Chad Ulmer, Ryan Bruns, Amanda (Bruns) Kim, Emily (Ulmer) Feinstein, Megan Bruns and great grandparents of 8.
Russell was born in Sedalia on June 2, 1924, son of the late Rosye Jane (Klein) Ulmer and Edgar Ernest Ulmer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen (Ulmer) Lewis and his brother, Billy Ulmer, both of Sedalia. He graduated from Smith-Cotton High School. Geneva was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 29, 1926 to the late Myrtle Lavina (Purchase) Farley and William Earl Farley. She was the sister of the late Dorothy (Farley) Culp of Warrensburg and graduated high school from Green Ridge. They married in Green Ridge on November 21, 1943 and Russell left 2 days later to serve in World War II where he was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with One Bronze Star. For over 30 years, Russell was an auto mechanic and then worked as a custodian at Sedalia Middle School. He was also a lifetime member at both the Masonic Lodge Granite 272 and the Valley of Kansas City Scottish Rite. Geneva was a homemaker. She also worked for many years as a waitress at the Old Missouri Homestead and sold Home Interiors. They were active in their church, Wesley United Methodist, and enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. They were true sweethearts by each other’s side for over 72 years and will remain together always.
A memorial to honor and celebrate their lives is being planned for this summer in Sedalia after a private burial in Memorial Park, Sedalia.
