Russell Thomas was born on May 7, 1965, in Lafayette, Louisiana. He lost his battle with cancer on October 10, 2023, at 58 years old. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and resilience that will continue to inspire others.
Russell was the pride and joy of his parents, Louvenia and Oliver Stokes. He grew up in Houston’s Fifth Ward and attended schools in both Houston and North Forest ISD. As a child he committed his life to Christ and was baptized at Fifth Ward Church of Christ.
Family was the center of his universe. He was the proud father of Veneca and Brentney and a devoted grandfather to Deiveon, Alayasia, and Jamarcus. He showered his family with unwavering love, guidance, and support.
Russell spent the last 19 years as a dedicated Records Specialist at Iron Mountain, specializing in records management. His commitment and flexibility allowed him to work at many locations throughout the Houston area. He excelled in his field and earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and peers.
In his leisure time, Russell enjoyed watching sports and movies and a home cooked meal. He found comfort and joy in spending time with family and friends. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. His warm smile and compassionate heart touched the lives of everyone he met.
Russell’s final journey reunites him with his parents, Louvenia and Oliver Stokes; one brother, Alton Thomas and one bonus-sister, Yolanda Benjamin
He leaves to cherish his memories two aunts Eola Holt (James) and Georgia Thomas; one uncle, Robert Thomas (Cookie); two bonus-brothers, Anthony Benjamin and Ricky Benjamin; his significant other and soulmate, Christina Jordan; two daughters, Brentney Williams (Fenddie) and Veneca Jones; his former wife and friend, Bridget Thomas; three grandchildren, Deiveon Sterns, Alayasia Jones and Jamarcus Jones and a host of relatives and friends who were touched by his warmth and compassion.
