Russell was born January 20, 1953. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1972. He earned an Associate Degree from Howard County Jr. College in 1985. He served in the U.S. Army October 1972 until November 1975. Russell found his work home at McRay Crane and Rigging, Inc. 30 years ago. He was dedicated to the company and the McRay family. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, boating and mostly riding his motorcycle both near and far and as fast as possible!
He was predeceased by his father, Monroe Baker in 1969 and by younger sister, Ramona Leverton in 2007. He is survived by his mother, Louise (Workman) Baker, sister Lenora Oldham, sister Virginia Morrison and husband R.D. Morrison, Nephews, Ronald Leverton and wife Tasha, R.D. Morrison, Jr. and wife Stephanie. Niece, Amanda King and husband Patrick. Great nephews and nieces, Corbin Leverton, Mathew Harmon, Ryker Noel, Kaleb, Kayla and Kamryn Mauldin, Harper and Jack Morrison.

A visitation for Russell will be held Monday, November 1, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, November 2, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018.
A committal service will occur Tuesday, November 2, 2021 from 1:15 PM to 1:45 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10401 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
