Rudy Valdez, age 70, of Houston, TX entered into rest, on December 6, 2019 in his home after a short battle with cancer. Rudy entered into life on February 11, 1949 in Houston, TX to Jose and Sara Valdez and was a graduate of San Jacinto High School, Class of 1968. He was a long time resident of Kashmere Gardens prior to him enlisting in the US Navy where he served from May 1969 to June 1973 and was a Vietnam War Veteran. Rudy was a hardworking, dedicated employee at HL&P and METRO, as an ASE Certified Auto Mechanic and Paint and Body man. He retired from METRO in February of 2008. After retirement he volunteered as an ESL Instructor at the North Channel Library and then returned to work at O’Reilly Automotive as an Automotive Parts Expert.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Alexander Hernandez (wife, Jean Hernandez-deceased), John Carlos Valdez, Teresa Liggin and Hector Torres. He is survived by wife, Joan Valdez; daughters JoAnn Valdez, Brandie Valdez (Daniel Gonzales); grandchildren Joshua Padilla, Josiah Padilla, Kayla Gonzales and Sebastian Gonzales; siblings Maria Carmen Graham (husband, Clarence Graham), Roy Valdez (wife, Delfina Valdez), Guadalupe Salazar (husband, Alfred Salazar-deceased); Brother in Law Greg Liggin and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rudy was married to his loving wife, AKA “his Guera” for 45 years. While he just loved being surrounded by women for most of his life, everyone knew that his pride and joy were when each one of his grandsons were born. They kept him smiling and were who he looked forward to seeing every day. Rudy loved spending time working on cars, cleaning out his garage, and enjoying an ice cold Miller Lite. He especially loved setting up his Christmas city every year – a tradition his grandchildren will keep alive.
