Ruby graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, Texas in 1941. She married Charlie Ellis Wheelus on August 29, 1942. She and Charlie were married 52 years and together they raised 3 daughters, Odell, Sonjia and Charlene.
Ruby was truly a member of the Greatest Generation and she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She was a self-taught seamstress and sewed for the New York and Dallas markets, Sinnet tennis apparel and had many loyal clients. She was known for the personalized baby quilts she would make for the many babies born into the family. She had a talent and it showed in the beautiful embroidery, crochet and smocking she also did. She enjoyed her garden and loved to travel and camp. She especially enjoyed the trips to Inks Lake in the summertime with as many family members that could gather together. She was one of the first members of Spring Branch Christian Church and was a member of the Spring Branch Lodge of the Eastern Star. Her spirit and laughter will survive her for years to come. She was well loved and will be missed by many.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Wheelus, and daughter Sonjia Hairston her parents Ocie and Hellon Norville, brothers Burl Norville, John Norville and Hubert Norville. She is survived by daughters Odell Smith and husband Joe, Charlene Johnson and husband Kevin, Grandchildren Troy Smith and wife Janet, Michelle Hairston, Charlotte McLane and husband Wayne, Phillip Smith and wife Lynn, Lisa Gossett and husband Joshua, Jason Johnson and wife Medena, twenty Great Grandchildren, nineteen Great-great Grandchildren, sister Nina Jane Ureck, and many nieces and nephews.
