Ruby Lee Elizabeth Joseph was born on November 23, 1942, in Houston, Texas to Mary Almeda Applon Joseph and Jefferson Joseph. She was the second of their children and brought love and joy to all who knew her.
Ruby attended Atherton Elementary, E.O. Smith Junior High and Phillis Wheatley Senior High School, graduating in 1961. She pursued her passion for healthcare by completing surgical technician training at Ben Taub Hospital. Her 40-year career as a Surgical Technician at Park Plaza Hospital and Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital was marked by dedication, compassion and professionalism.
Ruby’s creative talents were evident in her love of crafting floral arrangements. She found joy in traveling, line dancing, and spending time with loved ones. Her sharp wit and bold spirit made her unforgettable. She was an active member of organizations such as HULDA and Groove 44, and she treasured the friendships she formed there. Her faith was an essential part of her life. As a member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church, Ruby embraced her spirituality, and though illness later kept her from attending, her relationship with God remained steadfast.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Almeda Applon Joseph and Jefferson Joseph; her stepmother, Willie B. Joseph; her son, Barrett C. Joseph; and her brothers, Nolan L. Joseph and James E. Joseph Sr.
Ruby leaves behind her sisters, Rosa Joseph, Mary Jackson (Eugene), Geraldine Latson, Brenda Faye Joseph and Wanda Kaye Joseph, all of Houston, Texas; and Vera Minor of San Francisco, California; and sister-in-law, Loraine Joseph Johnson of Houston, Texas. Her memory will also be cherished by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who loved her dearly.
Ruby shared deep bonds with lifelong friends Dorothy Eatmon, Enevie Mullone, Ruby Diane Saddler, Robin Schenayder, Margree Spight, June Hall and Rosemary Yowman. These friendships were filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. Her strength, love and faith will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be missed deeply but remembered with love and gratitude for the beautiful life she lived.
A visitation for Ruby will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. The funeral service will immediately follow from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The committal service will be held from 3:45 PM to 4:00 PM at Paradise Cemetery North
