Ruben Perez Jr., 51, was born on April 2, 1966 and went with the Lord on June 5, 2017. Born and raised in Houston, Texas he was the son of Estella Perez Cook and Ruben Perez Sr. He was married to Gloria Puga for 20 years and was the beloved father of three strong and beautiful children, Joseph, Austin, and Lauren Perez. His spirit lives on through his sister Ursa Renette Perez and many cousins as close as brothers and sisters. He was and will always be cherished by his aunts, uncles, close friends and coworkers.
Ruben graduated from Milby High School in 1984 and enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1988. He grew to be the strongest man anyone knew and even until his final breathe he fought all the way through. He embraced every challenge he faced in his life and always smiled from ear to ear at every situation. His smile was in fact infectious and could brighten up the whole room with genuine love. He was a tough lover and bear hugged you and kissed you on the cheek so you could literally feel how much he loved you. He was a great teacher and honest friend but most importantly, he was a loving father.
He worked 29 years for Centerpoint Energy and was the “best gas man around.” He worked as a Senior Service Representative and took pride in how he helped others. He was never hesitant to go over to your house and look at technical issues or help with his strength or just clean up. He was a strong man with an intellectual mind. He enjoyed figuring things out on his own and he loved to get his hands in the dirt with a huge cheesing smile on his face.
Ruben was also a simple and very private man. He was always ready. He was always aware of his surroundings as any protector would be. He is truly now our Guardian Angel. Ruben enjoyed the simple things in life like watching TV shows with his family and enjoying a great meal. Only on the sunny days he would take a ride out on his Harley. Since a boy, Ruben loved everything about baseball. You could always catch him with a baseball cap on. His biggest love was his children and he will continue to guide them through life. He will be remembered for his smile, humor, and strength. His unselfish acts and determination that made him the man he was will continue to live on through all those that loved him.
