Ruben was born to Arturo and Josefa Gonzales, October 14, 1937 in Pflugerville, Texas. He graduated from Milby High School in 1955. He married Josephine (Judy) Perez in 1958, and they lived together in Houston, Texas. Together they raised 4 children.
Ruben is survived by: Daughter and Son in Law, Sylvia and Lloyd Jewell of Weimar, Texas, Son and Daughter in Law, Ruben and Janet Gonzales of La Porte, Texas, Son and Daughter in Law, Steve and Stacey Gonzales of Pasadena, Texas. Grandsons: David and Christy Jewell. Steven and Carole Gonzales, Phillip and Chelsea Gonzales, Gabriel Gonzales, Vincent and Taylor Gonzales, and Noah and Erin Gonzales. Grand Daughter: Aly Joy Gonzales. Great Grandchildren, Tucker, Quinton, Bailee, Avery and Sophi Gonzales, Cheyenne, Devin and Peyton Jewell. Great Great Grandchild: Levi Reid Jewell. Also survived by brother Fred and Nora Gonzales of Temple, Texas and various nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Judy Gonzales and a son, Andrew Gonzales. Also preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur (Tudy) Gonzales and Rafael (Fie) Gonzales.
Upon graduation from Milby High School, Ruben joined the US Army and served in Korea. Ruben worked at Goodyear Chemical Plant in Pasadena, Texas for 35 years. He enjoyed traveling with Judy and gambling at various casinos with friends. He also enjoyed playing golf with his brothers, son, son in law, cousins and friends. Ruben taught his children to camp, fish and water ski on the San Bernard River and how to handle a boat. Once his kids could drive the truck and boat, he gave up water sports and really focused on traveling, golf and sitting on the beach with his family. Ruben and Judy had a place at Jamaica Beach and created many memories with their children and grand children. He was active in the Goodyear Retirees Club and St. Augustine Catholic Church Mens Club.
A Funeral Service is scheduled for Thursday, June 15th at 12 noon visitation and service time at 1:00. The interment will follow after the service at 2:00 at Forest Park Funeral Home 6900 Lawndale, Houston.
Deacon Matthew Holland Jewell will officiate the ceremony.
The family requests that donations be made to Houston Veterans Administration or Parsons House Assisted Living La Porte, Tx.
