Ruben Cortez, Sr. a loving father, grandfather and brother. He was hardworking and a great provider for his family was born on March 15, 1962 in Houston, Texas to Antonio and Guadalupe Cortez and passed away on June 10, 2024 at the age of 62. He was a fun loving man to his kids and grandkids, enjoyed being outdoors barbecuing and listening to his favorite Tejano music, he loved to celebrate special occasions especially birthdays. “He was an old school mechanic and welder.”
He is survived by his children, Ruben Cortez Jr.; Tiffany Cortez and Rafael Garza; Ashley Villarreal and husband Victor Villarreal Jr. and; 15 grandchildren, Caroline, Ruben III, Andrea, Seth, Jeremiah, Shane, Alyssa, Romeo, Victor III, Sabrina, Sandi, Nathaniel, Jeremy, Susie and Ariah; along with the mother of his children, Sandra Lucio; siblings, Louis Cortez Sr. and wife, Betty, Hortence Cortez, Esmeralda Colunga and husband Henry, Delia Leal, Monico Cortez Sr. and wife Belia, Mary Cortez and husband Juan, Alice Trejo and husband Rene, Theresa Alatorre and husband Mario and Ray Cortez Sr. and wife Virginia and sister in law, Hope Cortez and other extended family members.
Ruben is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Guadalupe Cortez; his brothers, Tony Cortez Jr.and Albert Cortez, and sister, Stella Cortez and nephews Carlos Silva and Monico Cortez III and 2 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 12pm until 9pm at Funeral Del Angel Crespo Broadway Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 28, 2024 at Funeral Del Angel Crespo Broadway from 10am until 12pm with burial following at Grand View Memorial Park at 1:00 pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Ruben Cortez Jr. Ray Cortez Sr, Caroline Villarreal, Ruben Cortez III, Seth Rangel, Jessica Martinez, Rafael Garza and Victor Villarreal Jr.
