passed away June 8, 2010 in Houston, Texas; survived by his wife, Gladys Botzong
Turner of Houston, Texas; his daughter, Chandra Turner Moore, her husband Keith, and
their children Matthew, Alec, and Brian of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; and his son, Kalon Trent
Turner and his wife, Susan, of Katy, Texas. Mr. Turner was born March 6, 1925 in Minden, La. to
Claudie Goodwin Turner and Elmer A. Turner. He graduated from Gibsland High School in
1942, where he pitched a nohitter for the baseball team that is still mentioned to this day.
He attended Texas A&M prior to entering WWII military service. He served in the European
Theatre of Operations, landing June 6 on Omaha Beach and fighting in the Battle
of the Bulge. Honorably discharged in November 1945, he returned home where he met
Gladys Botzong and they were married January 10, 1946. After two years with Air Training
Command at Barksdale Field, La., he moved to Houston to work for Standard Oil Company
of Texas for the next 24 years. While there, he earned his B.A. at the University of Houston in 1955. Retiring early from Standard Oil, he continued to be involved in the oil business. He owned an oilfield supply company in Houston and Luling, drilled oil wells, and brokered oil leases. In 1990, after
the fall of the Berlin Wall, with several U.S. and foreign companies he created an organization
with offices in Houston, Stockholm, Moscow, Baar (Switzerland) and Tallin (Estonia)
to supply materials and repairs to put Russian oil wells back on production. After this
successful venture, he retired in 2002. He was a member of Willow Meadows Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Turner was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed very, very much by his wife, children and grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 11 and funeral
services will occur at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Tx. 77077; 2814972330. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations
be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association
