Roy Weldon Myers left this life on 08/01/2019, in Windsong Care Center, Pearland, Texas and went to be with the LORD. Born in Greenville, Texas, the son and last child of John Samuel and Irene Henley Myers. His parents always called him Weldon. He was a naturally gifted athlete, lettering in football and baseball at Greenville High.
A Navy veteran he served on the Pacific Front in WWII. Moving to Houston upon his discharge he met and soon married his love, Gus-Stella Aschenbeck, who preceded him in death on February 8, 2010.
Roy was a long-time resident of Houston's East End, retiring after many years of service from Shell Chemical, Deer Park. He and his family were members of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where he and Gussie were married. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3077 and the American Legion.
He was the proud father of 1 daughter, Lana Fay Mathis, her husband, Martin Mathis was his son-in-law, friend, and fishing buddy, 3 sons, John Thomas, Gregory Weldon, and Troy Joseph Myers and wife Harriet Slataper Myers. Pappy loved his four grandchildren, Brian Mathis and wife, Lynnette Haycraft Mathis, Jill Smethurst and husband, Ben Smethurst, Madeline Myers, and Natalie Myers. He was so very proud of his 5 great grandchildren, Garrett, Macie, and Marshall Mathis, Lila and Cora Smethurst.
An avid fisherman, especially on Caney Creek in Sargent, he loved visiting his "creek house." He selflessly cared for his wife for many years, continuing to be there for family, friends, and neighbors.
The family already misses our greatly loved "Puddy."
Weldon, we know that you are with the LORD, at peace with your beloved "Gussie", your in-laws, Gus and Della Aschenbeck, your family who passed before you, and all the angels and the saints.
His family will always love, remember, honor, and miss the Boy from Greenville, Texas.
Family will be receiving friends on Friday, August 9, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home located at 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at The Chapel of Angels located in the Forest Park Lawndale cemetery with the interment to follow.
