Roy Morgan Hansen, Jr, 69, arrived into this world on April 2, 1947, delivered into the arms of Jesus Christ his Savior on July 31, 2016. Preceded in death by his father, Roy Morgan Hansen, Sr., his mother, Peggy McKinney, his uncle Alfred “Hap” Hansen, and his aunts, Beth Hansen and Alice “Sally” Hansen, grandparents Joseph and Alice Hansen, and cousin Joe Hansen. Survived by his step-mother Cindy Hansen, brother Christian Hansen and wife Rebecca, cousins/caregivers Cheryl and Randy Baxley, nephews Eric Hansen and wife Yara, Shane Hansen and wife Becky, cousins Karen Benningfield and husband Larry, Donna McClellan, Inge Rockwell and husband Jimmy, Sarah and husband Wilson Thorp, Ben and wife Jody Baxley, and extended families and many friends.
Roy was born into this world with odds against him, but he beat those odds. Although he had medical issues in life, that never stopped him from being all he could be. As a kid growing up, he played Little League baseball with his brother with his dad as the coach. As he got older, he received his driver's license, and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. He held a job with the United States Postal Service as a custodian for 30+ years. Always proud of his accomplishments at work, he would tell of the days he drove the big trucks to the different locations. He retired from the Post Office in 2002. He was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and looked forward to going every Sunday and seeing his family and friends.
He loved fishing with this dad and Cindy at their bayhouse or on the jetties in Galveston. Many pictures and mounted fish adorn the walls of the home where he lived for 63 years. The past year, he was introduced to politics where he was a volunteer for Sylvester Turner campaign. He was involved in the neighborhood community and at the Houston Food Bank which he loved to do. He went to a symphony, ate exotic foods and learned about different cultures. If you were to ask him his favorite food, his reply would be “I like food”, it didn't matter what it was he loved it. He also rode the Red Line for the first time and loved it.
Roy will truly be missed here in the physical world, but his spirit will live on in our hearts & memories.
