Born May 4, 1924 in Houston, Texas, he will forever be in our hearts and prayers.
Roy served in the US Naval Service Coast Guard as Seaman First Class. He served his country sailing the world on the USS Falgout. After his military career, Roy worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, until taking a job with the US Postal Service as a mail carrier, where he retired in 1979, at the age of 55.
Roy loved to fish. His talent was legendary in and around the Port Bolivar area, where he also made many great friends. The flounder knew Roy’s name, and were scared. He was also an avid golfer and at 85 years, he could still hit his age. Roy was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he volunteered and worshipped most of his life.
In December 1976 he married Cynthia Coffman because he had enough caring, love and support for not one, but two families. Roy became a father to us all. Always with a song ready for anyone who would listen, he sang to everyone, especially the children. “I thought the party was divine…Good bye now…Good bye now”.
Roy is preceded in death by his mother and father, Alice Elfstrom Hansen and Joseph William Hansen, brothers, Alfred "Hap" Hansen and Joe Hansen, and sister, Alice J. Hansen.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Hansen, and children, Chris Hansen, Roy Hansen Jr., Angela Ray, Jeri Tharp and Kelly Tharp. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and 12.5 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday 8/4/2015. Visitation will be held at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday 8/3/2015, at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX. 77023. 713-928-5141
