Born the 22nd of November 1937, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, Roy’s education took him to the University of Oklahoma where he majored in Engineering Physics and then on to Johns Hopkins University where he received his Masters degree in Engineering. Roy started with Humble Oil Production Research in Houston before completing his military service at the rank of Lieutenant. He returned to Houston to work at Exxon Production Research (formerly Humble) where he met his wife, Barbara Beardmore. Roy had a very rewarding and successful career at Exxon that spanned more than thirty years. He started in research but most of his career was spent with Exxon foreign affiliates in long range planning. Roy’s work took his family from Houston to Australia, Libya, London, Norway, and Malaysia in service of the company. After retiring in 1993 and returning to Houston with Barbara, he put his energies into volunteer organizations such as the Executive Service Corps, American Cancer Society, Texas Children’s Hospital, and the United Way. He was a passionate advocate for causes he believed in and his intelligence and integrity will be missed along with his dry sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Barbara (Beardmore) Adams, his parents Earl P. and Marietta (Buffalow) Adams, and his daughter Charlotte Adams. He is survived by his son, Russell Adams.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Roy during a reception from two o’clock until four o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 24th of October, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A private family interment will be held at a later date at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
