Ross Bird was born the son of Fred and Lois Pearl on August 29, 1915, in Independence , KS. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1938. He lived over 60 Years in Houston, Texas, working as a Civil Engineer in the Villages of Piney Point, Hedwig and Hunter’s Creek. He has been an active member in Houston’s Chapelwood UMC, 1st Methodist West UMC, and Silver Creek UMC of Azle, TX.
He was preceded in passing by his wife Doris Weaver Bird and daughter Paige Bird Louie, his parents and also his siblings Thaine Bird and Cleo Burton.
He is survived in Life, by his wife Robbie Pyle Bird and their children; Alan R. Bird of Santa Fe, NM, Tanya Bird and Richard Snoddy of Baton Rouge, LA, Malcolm Pyle of Round Rock, TX, Tammy L. and Carroll Quinn of Round Rock, TX, Mitzie L. and Alan J. Katzen of Fort Worth, TX and Kollen and Jennifer Pyle of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren Alex Bird, Colby Bird, Joy and Drew Hurst, Jeanne Snoddy, Landon and Stacie Snow, Porter and Missy Snow, Courtney Coleman, Tiffany Prestridge, Mandy Tolle, Christopher Pyle, Kathryn Pyle, Heath Coty, Hayden Coty, Holden Coty, Julia Coty, Arie Katzen, Ezrie Katzen, Karis Katzen; 17 great grandchildren and his sister Elaine Gardiner.
Ross was a multifaceted man, having numerous interests and professions: geophysicist, geologist, civil engineer, oilman, rancher, farmer, inventor, artist, explorer, architect and builder. He retired from his own business, the Ross Bird Corporation of Houston TX at his young age of 92, and moved to Azle, TX where he has since lived with his beloved Robbie until his passing. Ross passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, June 22, 2014.
Ross lived his life celebrating life. He was generous, loving, kind, hardworking, patient, resourceful and creative. A man of many talents, who positively influenced and touched each person he met.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 28th from 6-8 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. The Memorial service will be officiated by Dr. Vaughn Baker of Silver Creek UMC and Mr. Allen Houk of First Methodist West UMC and will be held on Saturday June 28, 2014 at 10 am at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
