where he resided throughout his childhood. As a teenager during the summers he would work at Houser
Neon Sign Co. He made All City and All District in 4A class playing guard for Robert E. Lee high school. He was granted a scholarship to Del Mar college in Corpus Christi where he developed a passion for surfing.
He eventually transferred to Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Ca and lived in the high desert
doing odd jobs and developed a love for hiking. Being a proud Texan, he returned to Houston and began
working as a navigator for Digicon Oil, it was during this time he met his lovely wife Karen in 1974 and
they enjoyed many adventures traveling, hiking, and camping together. His career once again shifted
and he began working for Houser and Associates Electric Co. Inc. He co-owned this family business with
his father and older brother. He became knowledgeable in the business of lighting and electrician. He
was a people person and was well liked by everyone, employees and clients alike. He made a name for
himself in this circle of the construction business. He became successful and he married Karen on April
25, 1981 and they continued their many adventures including trips to the Bahamas and a trip to Alaska.
After working for Illuminex he acquired a position as lighting project manager with Sempra Energy and
he achieved tenor and secured his future. He eventually retired at 65.
He was a lover of music and played guitar regularly with his friends Donnie, Frank, and Larry and
anybody else who wanted to join the Tuesday night jam sessions. He was a child at heart maintaining a
young twinkle in his eye. He was an avid reader of science fiction often reading two books at one time.
He was a fan of his home teams and rarely missed a Texan, Astros, or Rockets game. He was always
willing to help someone and he loved getting together with friends and family. He had an extraordinary
sense of humor; Karen could never stay upset with him he could always make her laugh and he would
remark that was his “saving grace” his ability to make her laugh. He was a devoted and loving husband
and simply a joy to be around. When asked how he was he would simply say in his own words, “I’m full
of sweetness and life.”
He is proceeded in death by his parents Frank and Peggy Houser, older brother Frank Houser Jr.,
and his nephew James T. Rodriguez. He is survived by his wife Karen Houser, his nephews Joe
Rodriguez/Sarah, and Gavin Houser/ R.J. Pena. His nieces Jennifer Rodriguez-Wachege/Paul, Stacy
Brown/ Sean, and Jillian Palombo. His great nephews Cameron Brown, Chege Wachege, and Ryatt
Cleveland; great nieces Amber Lewis, Audrey Glenn, Allison Brown, Riley Brown, Ellena Palombo, Elissa
Palombo, Mbaire Wachege, and Hazel Rodriguez; his great-great niece Athena Hawkins, great-great
nephew Kai Ennis and many loving cousins and friends that are considered family.
