passed away peacefully of natural causes surrounded by family and friends.
After graduating high school at the age of 16, Ron attended a preparatory school and then received his Bachelor of Science in Geology at the University of Buffalo, after which he earned his Master of Science in Geology from Louisiana State University. During his time at the University of Buffalo, he was president of Theta Xi fraternity. Ron worked approximately 40 years for Humble Oil, which became Exxon Corporation, for whom he devised a process in the 1960’s to digitize geologic well logs to improve and modernize the process of data analytics for the petroleum industry. Ron retired from Exxon in 1994 as head of worldwide exploration production computing for Exxon.
Ron was an active member of the Houston Tidelanders Barbershop Chorus for over thirty years he also participated in the Marti Gras Barbershop Chorus in New Orleans in the 1960’s. During his first semester at LSU, Ron could no longer be apart from his high school love, and he returned to New York to marry his love Virginia Eversole in December 1953 they remained together for life very much in love.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. George Gordon Herdman and his beloved wife Virginia E. Herdman. He is survived by his daughter Nancy H. Progelhof and husband John Progelhof their children Justin, Rebecca, and Johnny; his son William G. Herdman and his daughters Kelly and Molly; his son Andrew R. Herdman and wife Carolyn Herdman and children Andrew, Joseph, Melanie, and Dylan, and by his sister Patricia H. Schlemmer as well as 8 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on April 29, 2022 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery followed by a private grave site service.
