Born on May 21, 1957, in Brownsville, Texas, to George and Delia Bennett. The family moved to Laredo where Ron attended Nye Elementary before progressing to United High School in Laredo, Texas. After high school, he continued his education at Laredo Junior College and later the University of Houston.
Ron met his wife, Ann, at a high school basketball game in 1976 and later married on April 28, 1979. Initially residing in Laredo after their marriage, they moved between Houston and San Antonio before settling in Houston permanently in 1987. Ron and Ann were married for 45 years. They were joyous parents to two children and six grandchildren who meant the world to him. Ron cherished every member of his family and friends, readily offering help whenever needed. His infectious spirit and sense of humor left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
Ron held the position of Vice President at AAA Box Co. A devout Catholic, he actively participated in St. Edith Stein Catholic Church for over 20 years, serving as an usher, Extraordinary Minister, and contributing to committees for the annual gala and festival. Alongside Ann, he assisted in preparing engaged couples for marriage through the UNITAS program. Ron also valued his involvement in the Knights of Columbus and ACTS organizations.
Ron was an incredible athlete, lettering in football, basketball, and track. His love for sports, particularly attending his grandchildren's events, was unwavering. His enthusiasm for sports led him to coaching his kids’ teams and refereeing junior high and high school football. Ron, a private pilot, enjoyed various activities such as sailing, fishing, hunting, motorcycle rides, travel, games with friends and hosting gatherings for family and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, George Bennett Sr. Ron leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Ann Leach Bennett. His legacy includes daughter Melaney LaRue and husband John, son Sean Bennett and wife Jessica; grandchildren Austin LaRue, MJ “Bo” Marsh, Celie LaRue, Marshall Bennett, Lucky LaRue and Carter Bennett. He also leaves behind his mother, Delia Bennett; brothers George Jr. and Richard; sisters Patsy, Kathy, and Lisa, and in-laws, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The Bennett family would like to thank everyone for their love and support. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the rosary at 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas. The mass will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at St. Edith Stein Catholic Church at 3311 N. Fry Road in Katy, Texas.
