Roger Wayne Green left this life peacefully in his sleep to be with his Lord and Savior on April 25, 2023, at age 76. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 27, 1946, and attended schools in Tulsa, Fort Worth, Nashville, and Houston where he graduated from Lee High School. He then attended Tulane University where he joined the ROTC, majored in English and played football, starting as a defensive back for the Green Wave in the 1967-1968 seasons. Upon graduation, he completed two years of active duty at Fort Ord, CA and Fort Hunter Ligget, CA. He left active duty as a First Lieutenant in October, 1971, and returned to Houston. To get his teaching certification, he attended Houston Baptist University, where he met Julie Ann Robinson. Roger and Julie were married on November 24, 1972, and raised two daughters. After briefly coaching football and track and teaching English at Eisenhower High School, Roger went on to a 40-year career in computer hardware and software sales in the financial services industry.
His favorite memories were made spending time with family and friends, fishing in Galveston, hunting in the wide-open spaces of South Texas, vacationing with Julie in beautiful destinations (many of these trips he won in sales contests), studying photography and classic literature, and singing in choirs—most notably the Houston Symphony Chorus. Above all, his wife, children, and grandchildren were the joy of his life, and they will miss him greatly! His daily prayers for them, whole-hearted delight in them, steady presence, silly dad jokes, beautiful voice, great cooking, weekly dinners together, and yearly family vacations are gifts they treasure. He is preceded in death by parents Paul and Wanda Green; and siblings David and Cynthia Green. He is survived by wife Julie; daughter Lauren Heitmann and her children – Max, Van, Cy, and Liza; daughter Allison Easton, her husband Matt, and their children – Elise, Leah, and Elliot.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30am Friday, May 5, 2023, at BridgePoint Bible Church, 13277 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
In lieu of flowers, you may honor Roger with a contribution to Frontier Camp, a non-profit Christian camp that was close to his heart.
