RODESSIA S. HARRIS was born April 18th, 1931 to Deacon Cleveland Smith and Tillie Mae Davis in Elm Grove, Louisiana. She earned her education in Shreveport, Louisiana.
After graduating, she married Willies James Harris. From that union, the birth of Patsy D. Harris and Larry James Harris. She later moved to Houston, Tx where she worked for many years for Three Brothers Bakery. Her love for baking lead her to making great desserts. We believe her favorite cake was german chocolate because she made one every Thanksgiving along with sweet potato pies and banana pudding. After retiring from the bakery, she opened a home daycare. So many kids today are still asking about "Ms B".
While serving parents and their babies, "Ms. B" started selling cool-cup, pickles, Frito-pies, and candy. For over 20 years, she was known in the neighborhood as the "Cool-Cup Lady". To date, people are still asking about her cool-cups, her personal creations. She created the "rainbow cool cup" with a bubble gum in the bottom. She was an entrepreneur without the title. She was all work.
When Rodessia, also known as "B", "Aunt B", "Momma", "Granda B", first came to Houston, TX, she was a member of Creston Baptist Church with her mom. In 2014, she join Greater Love Baptist Church and worked on the usher board. Sis. Harris, as she was known to her church family, was serious about her duties. You were not coming in the door during prayer and she was quick to put a kleenex under your mouth to receive your gum. She was later honored with the role of Mother of the Church. She did not have an issue telling anyone, including the pastor, how things need a change or the way things should go. She was loved.
Preceded in death is her parents, her only son; Larry James Harris, her brothers, Robert Smith, Cleveland Smith, & John Smith. Rodessia leaves behind her daughter; Patsy D. Harris, and Nephew; David Smith (Bernice), nine grandkids; Tangela (Jeremy), Terry Harris, Anthony Harris (Tracy), Derrick Harris (Tameka), Traneesa Frazier (Tyson), Jameesa Oakley (Bryan), Quiana Bigham, Mekesha Letien (Gregory), Lawrence Harris, a host of great grandkids, and other relatives.
