Texas, passed away on Friday, the 22nd of June 2018.
Robert was born in 1946 in Houston, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tracy, Sr. He spent his
childhood in the Park Place neighborhood before enrolling as one of the first students to attend
the Richmond State School when it opened in 1968. Robert claimed two homes from that point
on, alternating time with his devoted parents and family in the Houston area, and with his family
of caregivers and friends at Richmond. Robert was recognized as a 50-year resident earlier this
year. A few still remember Robert when he was pedaling his three-wheeler all over the
sidewalks of campus during those earlier years.
Robert’s mother, Jaunetta, introduced Robert to music and art at an early age and supported his
lifelong interests with acrylic paints, staff paper, construction paper, and more popsicle sticks
than anyone can imagine. Robert participated in music festivals around the state, playing the
kazoo, rhythm sticks, or tambourine, and singing in the choir. He absolutely loved to play his
player piano and share the details of how to adjust the controls with anyone who was privileged
to listen.
Robert was always eager to meet new friends and once he had met you, your name and face
were never forgotten. He was curious about many things, always looking for new stories, but
among his favorite topics: trains, player pianos, radio shows, and I Love Lucy episodes. He
loved the many staff members and friends at Richmond that were his community. Robert’s
presence, voice, and laughter will be remembered by many. Robert’s belief in God and Christ
was true and God’s love was shared with all who encountered Mr. Tracy.
Robert is survived by his brother-in-law, Sam B. Cooper, Jr.; his nephew, Sam B. Cooper III and
his wife Rita Beth; nieces, Cherie Cooper, Desiree Daniel, and Jaunetta Cooper; and great
nieces, Jessica and Brittany Daniel. Robert’s family has always been blessed to have him as a
teacher and a guide to look at life with a different perspective. His time with each of them
includes special memories that are unique and treasured.
After a private family ceremony, a Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held at Richmond State
Supported Living Center later this summer.
