Robert (Bob) R Rudy born October 19, 1926, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 5, 2014. Robert was born to Rita Ringland McCabe and Leroi William Rudy in Jacksonville, Florida. He grew up throughout the Gulf Coast and Texas before his Mother and Step-Father Frank McCabe settled in Houston, Texas in the mid to late 1930’s. He graduated from Stephen F Austin High School. His entire adult life was spent as a proud resident of Pecan Park. Upon graduation he chose to serve his country during World War II and he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1943 after his 17th birthday. He served in the Fourth Marine Division and saw combat in four beachhead landings in the South Pacific Islands of Roi-Namur, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged from the Marines. He attended the University of Houston under the GI bill and graduated in June 1949 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting. In his professional career he worked a year as an accountant for Ernst & Ernst. He left Public Accounting to ply his profession in the Oil and Gas Industry and was the Office Manager and accountant for Southern Oilwell Service Company through the late 1960’s. Next he worked 12 years for Texas Pipe bending a subsidiary of the Bendix Corporation and then was an accountant for Stone & Webster Oil Company where he retired in the mid 1990’s. After college, Bob was an avid bowler. He met his future wife Ora Margaret Blackburn while practicing. They were married in June 1953 and had 3 sons. Bob and Margo’s lives revolved around their family. Bob was a Weblow Den Father for Cub Scout Pack 674 which met at Southmayd Elementary School. He then went on to be the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 126, which met at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Lawndale. He continued serving as Scout Master for several years after his sons had left scouting. Bob also was involved in Little League with his three sons. He served as a Score Keeper, Players Agent and Coach for Dixie American Little League at Rothrock Field on Lawndale. He coached the Major League Buffaloes, the Cardinals and coached the Dixie Little League Allstars. He continued to coach Little League for Dixie when the League moved to Ingrando Park for a few years after his sons had completed play. Bob and Margo enjoyed playing bridge throughout their long marriage of 56 years and were a popular couple amongst the party bridge players in southeast Houston. Later they enjoyed playing with their son and his friends. After retirement they began playing duplicate bridge and traveled around Houston playing at the Forum, Bayland and Bear Creek Clubs. One of Bob’s other great joys throughout his entire life was fishing. In particular, he was almost exclusively a salt-water fisherman along the Gulf Coast of Texas. He was especially fond of wade fishing the bays around Galveston and Rockport, Texas. He loved catching speckled trout and red fish. He was preceded in death by his mother Rita Ringland McCabe, his wife Ora Margaret Rudy and his son Carlton Stuart Rudy. He is survived by his sons Robin Rudy and Howard Rudy. His wife Margo and his son Carlton will be welcoming him into heaven. The family expresses their great appreciation for all the care givers who attended to our father, especially those with Houston Hospice.
