Robert Lee Popham, age 80, passed away at home Friday November 18th after battling cancer. Robert was born on September 14th, 1942 in San Antonio, Tx to Ada Louella and Sammy Lee. He had two brothers, Cecil David Popham and Thomas Lawrence McRae.
Robert is survived by Peggy Ann Popham, his wife and best friend of 42 years, the love of his life. Their daughter, Koushatta Berckenhoff and husband Jake Berckenhoff. His children, Robert Popham and wife Julie Popham, Rhonda Miliken and husband Bobby Miliken, Ricky Popham, and Randy Popham. His step children, Charlene Boyce and husband Shannon Boyce, Cindy Taylor and husband Ben Taylor, Chad Popham and wife JodiLee Popham and daughter in law Rhonda Popham. As well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and 1 great great grand daughter. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas McRae and Cecil Popham, his father, Sammy Popham, his mother Ada Grunewald, his step son Cecil Popham Jr, and his grandson Joshua McLaughlin.
Robert joined the Army in August 1960 and served 3 years before his honorable discharge in August of 1963. He was stationed in Germany and drove ranking officers. This would become the start of his driving career. He loved his time serving and was proud of his country.
Robert retired from truck driving after 47 years. He loved his career as a truck driver and prided himself in his safety and pristine driving record. After he retired in 2007, Robert and Peggy sold their home, they then decided to fulfill their dream of traveling by purchasing a 5th wheel. Ultimately, they settled in Houston, Tx and spent their time enjoying their grandchildren.
Robert loved being surrounded with family, spending time with grandkids, going on family vacations, fishing, woodworking, and going to casinos.
Robert was kind, he had a big heart, loved deeply and unconditionally, he was selfless, had a great sense of humor, and he had a contagious smile.
A memorial service for Robert will be held Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068, followed by a reception from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
