Robert Delman Perkins, Jr., age 85, passed away March 26, 2020, in Houston, Texas. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, he arrived in Houston at the age of 3, and thereafter remained a life-long resident of the Bayou City. He fondly recounted his formative years at River Oaks Elementary, Lanier Middle School, and Lamar High School, from which he graduated in 1953. Delman later obtained an M.B.A. from Sam Houston State University, and enjoyed successful careers in the oilfield services industry and as an entrepreneur. He impacted the lives of many, especially youth, whether as a baseball coach or through his many years of service to the Boy Scouts of America, as evidenced by his receiving the Silver Beaver award in 1992. Delman was the very definition of a "people person," and he enjoyed an exceptionally wide variety of friends from all walks of life. He remained an avid collector of fine art, coins, and books, and he delighted in sharing his interests with others. Delman was preceded in death by his wife for whom he served as a devoted caretaker during her battle with cancer. He is survived by his son, Robert D. Perkins, III, and daughter-in-law, Mary Joanna Lyman, and grandsons, John Robert Perkins and Matthew McLean Perkins. A graveside service will be celebrated for family at Forest Park Westheimer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Delman's name to a local organization such as Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS), The Heritage Society, or The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
