Robert “Bob” Leland Kennedy, 72, of Katy, Texas, devoted husband and father, went to be with our Lord on Friday, August 12th, 2011. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family after battling kidney cancer. Robert was born on October 26, 1938 in Galveston, Texas, BOI. He graduated from Ball High School in 1956 and attended Texas A&M University graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. In 1962, Robert married Beverly Berrie of Galveston. Three daughters joined them soon thereafter: Brenda, Debra, and Carrie. Robert had a long, successful career in engineering, project management and construction of offshore and onshore oil and gas projects. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. During his career, he worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron, McDermott, Transco Exploration, Enstar Engineering, Omega Marine, on his own as a consultant and he retired from Mustang Engineering in 2008 after 17 years of service. Robert’s career took him around the U.S. and around the world to such locales as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, the Philippines, Africa, Argentina and Ecuador and he made friends easily in each place. Outside of work, Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, researching on the computer, and gardening. He loved cars, watching Aggie football games and traveling with his wife.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Anne and Richard Kennedy, and his sister, Kalyn. He is survived by Beverly Kennedy, his lovely wife of 49 years; three daughters, Brenda and her husband Frank Noto of Springfield, MO; Debra and her husband C.D. Shamburger Jr. of Dallas, TX; and Carrie and her husband, Duane Vos of Katy, TX. He is also survived by his three brothers with whom he was very close: Ronald Kennedy and his wife Sandi, John Kennedy and his wife Cynthia, and James D. Kennedy and his wife Linda. Robert also leaves seven grandchildren who knew him as “Grandpa” and “Papa”; Natalie, Megan and Collin Vos, Nicole and Samantha Noto, and Trey and John Shamburger and numerous nieces and nephews who knew him as “Uncle Bob.”
Robert was loved and respected by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. Robert will be remembered for his humorous wit, his stories from his overseas travels, for being very meticulous and organized, and for his unconditional love, his strong lifelong friendships, and his loyalty to his wife, family, friends, and co-workers. He was sometimes quiet, until you knew him, and deep down warm, loving and playful. He was an incredible man as those that knew him know.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, August 16th, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the chapel at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. that evening led by Deacon Don Kish, Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church.
