Bob grew up in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1951, He then went on to attend and graduate from the University of Oklahoma in Norman with a Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering in 1957. At OU, Bob was a member of the Phi Kap fraternity and was a member of the Naval ROTC.
Upon graduation, Bob worked at Texas Eastern in Houston, Conoco in Corpus Christi, and then was a Vice President of Ray Resources in Charleston, West Virginia. Bob moved his family back to Houston in 1976 and worked for JM Huber. He finished his career with JM Huber and retired in 1995.
Bob was a long-time member of the Petroleum Club of Houston and the American Petroleum Institute (API), and recently received the API Lifetime Dedication Award in February 2023. A long-time member with the First Presbyterian Church in Houston, he volunteered his time meeting friends and working in the print department.
Bob joins in heaven his son, Robert Michael “Mike” Hanley, who passed away in 2017. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret “Peggy” Wilmans Hanley; his son, William “Bill” Edward Hanley and his wife Kim Fondy Hanley; his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Hanley, and his grandson, Cameron James Hanley.
Friends are cordially invited to a memorial service to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 17th of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a family reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
