ROBERT BRYANT EVANS, 83, of Houston, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away April 17, 2012. Bob was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, the middle of three sons of D. B. and Elizabeth Taylor Evans. Bob grew up working with his father in his construction business and some years later, through hard work and perseverance, created Evans and Northdale Construction Companies, which built many of the region’s most notable buildings.
Bob was an avid pilot and someone once said he could “fly anything from a paper airplane to a jet.” Having boxed professionally in four bouts, he competed in life like he fought in the ring. He proudly served during wartime with the National Guard. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Lodge #1172, a member of the Shriners, the Jesters and was an active member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church.
His charitable work was extensive, having supported Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Acapulco Children’s Home, March of Dimes, Houston Grand Opera and many others. Bob was open-hearted and extremely generous; he was truly a "yes" man when anyone or any organization asked for his help. He assisted countless people to realize a dream of owning their own business by providing counseling, money and his time.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Evans and son Tony Evans. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Gudrun Evans; brother Ross Evans; sons Gary Evans and wife Sharon, Kyle Evans and wife Joann, Scott Evans, and Mark Evans and wife Paige; daughters Lisa Morgan and Monica Atkinson and husband Glenn and their children Chandler and Natalie; grandchildren Gary Lynn and wife Callie and their children Maxwell, Caden and Anabelle; Lauren, Jordan, Amanda, Beau, Tracy and Daniel Garrison and Rachel; and mother-in-law Irmgard Dean.
Bob will be remembered for his compassion, loyalty, passion, drive and love of family. His family thanks his physician and good friend of 40 years, Dr. Glover Johnson and the nursing and hospice team at Memorial Hermann Southwest for their loving care during his final days.
The burial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The 100 Club or to Living Water International.
