Robert Lee Dorsey better known as RL, was born January 23, 1941 in Mab, Louisiana to Johny Cade Dorsey and Pinnie Mae Wise Dorsey. He had 2 brothers and 3 sisters. RL grew up in Merryville, Louisiana and played high school football. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served his country proudly for 4 years. He was an artillery man and served in Vietnam. In 1962, he married his first love Dolores Heitman and together they had 3 children. They lived in the Houston Heights area for several years then moved to Pasadena. In 1979, RL lost his wife Dolores and he became a single dad. In 1981, RL met Nancy Elledge and they quickly fell in love and married that same year. They were now a new family of his and hers with 5 children.
RL worked for Fina chemical company for 25 years as a millwright. He and Nancy lived in Deer Park for 40 years and have raised their 5 children with 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved fishing and hunting and spending time with family. He also loved family reunions and spoiling his grandchildren. He enjoyed reading the paper, watching football and keeping up with the high school football standings and the Dallas Cowboys. Socializing involved sitting around drinking coffee, laughing and joking or telling stories around a deer camp campfire.
RL passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family on Thursday, February 4, 2021. RL is survived by his wife Nancy Dorsey, brothers JC Dorsey and Raymond Dorsey and wife MaryAnn. His 5 children: Carie Dibonaventura and husband Dennis, Melisa Brandt and husband Daniel, Eric Dorsey and wife Mary, Robert Morgan, Amy Elledge and husband Curt, 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Robert will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will follow immediately after the service in Brookside Memorial Park.
