Robert J. ‘Bob’ Londrigan, passed away on February 12, 2015 in The Woodlands, Texas. Bob celebrated his 86th birthday last August with his children. He was preceded in passing by his wife of 40 years, Mary Londrigan. He is survived by his second wife of 21 years, Georgia. He is also survived by his brothers, Jim Londrigan of Springfield, Illinois and Paul Londrigan of Hillsboro, Illinois.
He received a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois and worked for 39 years as an Engineering Manager for Shell Oil Corporation. He was a long-time member of the St. Vincent de Paul Parish and was active in the bridge club at the church.
Bob described himself as a tough old bird. But we knew him as a proud and generous man with a sharp mind, sarcastic wit, soft heart, and an insatiable sweet tooth. He said he felt happiest when his family was with him. Bob was known for giving speeches on special occasions, imparting his wisdom to all who would listen, and lecturing his kids and grandkids on achieving life’s milestones in the proper order.
In his younger years, Bob was named All City in football, basketball, and baseball while a senior at Cathedral Boys High School. His basketball team made it to the Sweet 16 in the 1946 state basketball tournament, after Bob had prayed all year to make it. In 2006 the team was inducted into the Springfield, Illinois Sports Hall of Fame for this accomplishment. Bob continued to support Sacred Heart-Griffin High School through donations in recent years.
Bob was dedicated to the sport of swimming when his kids were young. He volunteered his time to AAU swimming as a referee and president of the Gulf Association. Bob and Mary were very involved as Board members of Meyerland Aquatic Club, and his kids have fond memories of Bob filling in as coach when needed. Bob said the sport kept his family together on weekends, and he always knew where his kids were after 9:30 pm – in bed. He also coached boy’s basketball teams at St. Vincent de Paul School, as well as serving on the parish council at St. Thomas More Church for many years.
Robert Londrigan is survived by his children Bob Londrigan & his wife Ingi, Laurie Londrigan Schaper & her husband L.J. Schaper, Mary Anne Londrigan Hines & her husband Chris Hines, Julie Londrigan Baker & her husband Dudley Baker, Teresa Londrigan Rodriguez & her husband Ernie Rodriguez, Kevin Londrigan & his wife Dee, Chris Londrigan & his wife Claudia, and Tom Londrigan & his wife Denise.
Bob also gave his love to his 13 grandchildren: Andrew Schaper, Kyle Schaper & wife Caitlin, Matthew Hines, Duggan Baker, Kaeli Baker, Brian Rodriguez & wife Lindsay, David Rodriguez, Anthony Rodriguez, Lauren Londrigan Phillips & husband Scott Phillips, Kelley Londrigan, Isabel Londrigan, Meagan Londrigan, and James Londrigan; and his great granddaughter Zoey Phillips.
The Londrigan family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Grove Cottage of The Woodlands for the loving care and companionship that they gave to Bob. Our dad accepted his illness with humility and strength, and was blessed to be surrounded by so many compassionate caregivers. We hope they serve plenty of “Twyla’s Delight” for dessert in Heaven for you Daddy!
