Robert (Bob) Bishop, 83, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on July 12th, 1932 and passed away on to new life on January 31, 2016. He is preceded in death by his wife Irene A. Brinkman Bishop; his parents Robert and Mary Bishop; and his sister Margaret Holme. His remaining family that will continue his legacy: his daughter Vivian Bishop Sobotik and son-in-law, Kurt Sobotik; his son Robert Randall Bishop, and daughter-in-law Dawn Bishop; his grandchildren, Marla Rebecca Sobotik, Robert Reid Bishop, Eric Benedict Sobotik, Emily Anne Bishop, Gregory Robert Sobotik, and Seth Donald Bishop. Additionally, he had many loving caregivers including: Janelle Jones, Maria Vargas, Avista Place Living, and many other kind folks.
Bob served honorably in the 274th Army battalion stationed in Alaska and graduated from the University of Houston where he played collegiate soccer and received his mechanical engineering degree. He was leader in the oil and gas industry working for many years at O&M Manufacturing Company providing his expertise in the design and manufacture of heat transfer products used around the world. He founded two successful business ventures: Shoreline Systems, Inc and the Robert Bishop Company where he loved the relationships developed with his customers. He was also a lover of the Scottish arts where he was one of the first accomplished bagpipers in Texas and shared his love of the instrument teachings dozens the art. He was the founding pipe major of the Houston Highlanders Pipe Band and Houston Scottish Pipe Band as well as past chieftain of Houston’s Heather & Thistle Society. He also enjoyed salt water fishing, hunting wild game, and cooking. He loved animals owning several horses and dogs throughout his life. His penchant for hospitality and helping others was well known. He faithfully loved and cherished his beloved wife, Irene, for their entire marriage spanning 57 years.. He was a long time member of Second Baptist Church.
A visitation for Bob will be Thursday, February 4th from 6-8:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be Friday, February 5th at 3:00 PM.
