

Robert George Aguilar Sr., 93 of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on August 13, 2021. He was born in Victoria, Texas on June 7, 1928. Robert graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School and then joined the military at the age of 16 with the permission of his mother, Josephine. While serving in both the United States Navy and Marine Corps, he received WWII and Korean War Awards: WWII Victory Medal, Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. As a corpsman in the military, he was stationed in the Philippines, Japan, China and Guam. He was featured in a special Veteran’s Day issue of the Houston Chronicle from 2019. He graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and was a member of the Phi Delta Chi fraternity. While in college, he boxed and played football. He later earned his doctorate in Pharmacy.
He was married to his beloved wife, Beatrice P. Aguilar on December 31, 1955. Robert and Beatrice were married early at 7:00 A.M., since it was during the holidays and that was the only time available.
Robert had a lengthy career in pharmacy, first working at Jones Apothecary and later opening his own business, Lorraine Apothecary in Houston, Texas. The Texas State Board of Pharmacy awarded him a certificate for 50 years of service. He maintained his pharmacy license and continued to work until the age of 91 and only stopped because of the pandemic. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5077 where he became Grand Knight twice. He was also a member of the International Order of Alhambra, a Catholic fraternal order founded in 1904, and was an active member of the American Legion. He had a passion for spending time with his family, cooking, baking, barbecuing, playing and watching sports, shooting pool and playing cards.
He is preceded in death by his father, Manuel Aguilar Sr. and mother, Josephine Aguilar, brothers Manuel Aguilar Jr. and Ralph Aguilar, father-in-law, Nazario Palacios, mother-in-law Cipriana Palacios, brother-in-law, Joseph Palacios, sister-in-law, Dulie Martinez, sister-in-law Madlyn Carbone and brother-in-law Joseph Giries.
Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beatrice and children, Judith (Jon) Hebert, Robert G. Aguilar Jr., Gregory (Ronna) Aguilar, Michael (Carol) Aguilar, Elizabeth (Al) Chmiel and Beatrice (James) Ledbetter. Grandchildren Jarrad (Anahi) Aguilar, Alyssa Rivas, Victoria (Chase) Moehlman and James Ledbetter IV. Great grandchildren Astácia Eliana Garcia, Amelia Liew Moehlman, Delilah Rose Moehlman, and baby Aguilar on the way. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
A visitation with family and friends of Robert will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 beginning at 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038 with a rosary service from 6:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. A rite of Catholic burial will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
