Rita Kay Hardy, 76, passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2024, in Houston, Texas. Born on August 20, 1947, in Clark County, Indiana, she was the cherished daughter of Jess and Doris Hardy, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by sister Sallye Muirhead of Huntsville, Texas.
After graduating from New Albany High School in 1965, Rita moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she began her career as a stewardess with Braniff International Airlines in 1967. A few years later, she moved to Houston, Texas and when Braniff International Airlines declared bankruptcy, Rita began a career in real estate. Later on, she became involved in the catering industry, which led to 25+ years of employment at many of Floyd Landry's Restaurants throughout the Houston area. Her fondest memory was the night she was a catering staff member at George Bush's home, and when President Bush met the staff, each member was awarded a presidential tie clip. Additionally, she worked as a bartender in the skyboxes at Minute Maid Park, home of the Astros. She worked at all of the baseball games until the time of her passing.
Throughout the years, she enjoyed, sports, gardening, the beach, and traveling, but the true loves of her life were her dogs. She adored them all, including a mix-breed dog by the name of Fred, who was with her to the end. Fred now resides with his adopted owner and is adjusting to a new home.
Rita was well liked and never met a stranger. She will be missed by many and remembered for her adventurous spirit and the loving memories she created with her family and friends.
In memory of Rita, donations may be made to the animal rescue of your choice, honoring her love for animals.
