He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 96. He had been battling Alzheimer's for some time. He is preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Janice See, of nearly 60 years.
Richard's family was the nucleus of his existence. He is survived by his son, Richard Ray See Jr., and his daughter, Peggy Ann Willis. His grandchildren, Katinka Jeanne Sweet, Richard Ray See III, Robert Tristan Harper See, Katrina Marie Hipp, Desiree D Willis, and Gregory Jet Willis, were a constant source of joy. Richard was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable happiness. His extended family, who held him in deep affection, will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.
Despite a rough start during the Great Depression, traveling by boxcar and working as a field hand with his family, Richard ended up in Houston in 1934. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II before graduating from Milby High School, showing a strong sense of duty early on.
After the war, Richard lived a fulfilling life. He married, started a family, and worked as an electrician. 1955, he joined the Houston Fire Department to provide even more for his loved ones. He served with distinction for 30 years, retiring as a Captain.
Even in retirement, Richard wasn't one to slow down. He went on to get law enforcement credentials and became a Harris County Deputy Sheriff for another 20 years. He focused on the marine division and even served as a diver.
Retirement just wasn't in Richard's blood. He wasn't done making a difference. He pursued a unique passion and earned a Clownology diploma from Cheerful Clowns Clown College! (you read that right!) For nearly two decades, he brought joy to those who needed it most by volunteering as "Fritz," the clown at Herman Hospital, proving that laughter is truly the best medicine.
Beyond his full-time roles, Richard always found time to give back. He achieved a high rank (32nd Degree) in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, served as a deacon at his church, and even volunteered as vice president and groundskeeper for Glendale Cemetery. Richard's life indeed embodied service to others. Rest in Peace. You earned it, Dad. Bump A Nose!
