On a clear, cool morning in January 1945, Richard Lee Prophet Jr. was born to Navy sailor Richard L. Prophet and house wife Rosie Lee Prophet(Collier) in Houston, Texas. Richard (a.k.a. Dude among his siblings) loved horses, was musically inclined, and enjoyed being the center of attention.Richard attended Carver High School in Acres Homes where he participated in Band, Student Council, Physics and Math Club, Royal Dukes, and the Carver Combo. Richard went on to attended Texas Southern University in
1965. After a lunch time car race resulted in a blown engine and money spent on said engine instead of the college tuition, Richard was drafted by the Army in 1966 and sent to fight in the Vietnam War.Richard married his wife of 53 years, Earlene Brumfield, in the summer of 1971. Their union produced three children and a wealth of priceless experiences, lessons, and memories.Richard’s love for automobiles began at an early age -- he never met a vehicle he could not drive or a highway he could not conquer. Richard parlayed his favorite hobby into a successful career in automobile sales.This paved the way to Richard becoming one of the first Black auto dealership owners in the nation, numerous top sales awards, leadership accolades, and being featured in Black Enterprise Magazine’s top 100.Fueled by passion, generosity, and the grace of God, Richard paid it forward and gave back to his community by way of countless sponsorships, trustee appointments, and advocacy from serving as an honorary Harris County constable to being a charter member of the Black Go Texan Rodeo Committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.Richard professed Christ as his Savior early in life. He connected with Bishop James Dixon, II and The Community Of Faith Church on April 3,1987. From Army sergeant awarded 3 Bronze stars and a Purple Heart, to loving son, brother, husband, father, nephew, cousin, and friend, the life of Richard L. Prophet Jr. was vibrant, fruitful, and extraordinary. Richard passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his sister Joyce, youngest daughter,Robin Nicole Prophet, as well as a host of family and dear friends.Left to cherish his memory--wife, Earlene Brumfield Prophet; children,Rashonda Renee Prophet and Richard L. Prophet III (Meagan); grand-children, Nicholas Evan Prophet, Noah Richard Prophet, Josephine RoseProphet;siblings, Larry Eugene Prophet (Ethel), Joseph Ray Prophet, RitaLynn Thomas (Jerry), Jeffery Allen Brown; uncle, Ernest Dyer Sr., nieces,nephews, cousins, friends, and others whose life Richard touched.
