Richard Gaines

Richard Gaines Jr. was born on October 27, 1934, to Richard Gaines Sr. and Roberta Gaines in Belcher, Louisiana.

Richard completed his education at Wheatley High School and headed to the Marines where he served in the Korean War. Richard made a home in Houston, Texas and began working at Shef’s Grocer Supply.

Richard began a family and had 3 children Hortense, Roberta, and Steve.

In October of 1985, Richard married Natalie Rose Potier, and they went on to live happily, spending time watching sports, and their grandchildren and great grandchildren grow until Richard’s earthly departure.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father, daughter Roberta Deadrick, siblings Josephine Davis, Roberta Jones, Thomas Gaines, Sammie Gaines, Virgie Doze, and grandson Curtis Jones.

He leaves behind his wife Natalie Gaines, daughter Hortense Gaines, Steve Gaines, and stepdaughter Fernellifa Courtney (Gerald Courtney), grandchildren Richard Gaines, Ramond Deadrick, Nicholas Gaines, Deshaun Gaines, Roderick Barnes, FadriaThomas, Curtis Jones, Robert Turner, Nathan Terrell Thomas, Jessica Jolivette, Xavier Thomas, Tahitsha Thomas, and Jared Jolivette, and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

A visitation will occur Friday, September 30, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 16161 Old Humble Rd., Humble, TX 77396. Funeral service for Richard will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Light of the World Christian Fellowship, 16161 Old Humble Rd., Humble, TX 77396. His committal service will occur Friday, September 30, 2022 from 1:15 PM to 1:15 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.
